Arrowleaf Cellars is a family run business owned and operated by Joe and Margrit Zuppiger and their son, Manuel Zuppiger. The Zuppigers immigrated to Canada from Switzerland in 1986. Having run both fruit growing and dairy operations, Joe and Margrit were looking to try something new so in 1996 they purchased Suncrest Vineyard with the goal of starting a land based winery. Manuel went back to Switzerland to train as a winemaker and returned with a keen interest to make wine in the fledgling Okanagan wine region. Arrowleaf officially opened its doors in the spring of 2003 with its first vintages of 2001 reds and 2002 whites.
Arrowleaf is committed to producing the most local product possible, sourcing 90% of the grapes from Lake Country, and 10% from within 35km of the winery. The belief is that the wines should reflect the unique location and terroir. The focus is on grape varieties that thrive in the area, such as aromatic whites like Bacchus and cool climate reds like Pinot Noir and Zweigelt.
Arrowleaf’s brand-new tasting room and kitchen opened in fall of 2014.
Arrowleaf was named one of Canada’s Top 25 Wineries in 2014 by WineAlign after winning 8 medals at the National Wine Awards of Canada. Check them out Top 25 Wineries in Canada 2014.
